What is Nouveau Riche? Ask Wikipedia

Wikipedia has become part of my daily life. If I am ever creating a post that needs research then I will always consult Wikipedia as part of that research and often it's where I find a large portion of my information.

So what is Nouveau Riche?

Well firstly is French for new rich, which basically translates to rags to riches.

Luckily Wikipedia give me a nice handy page under the term rags to riches, to give an explanation for this:

"The term "Rags to Riches" refers to any situation in which a person rises from poverty to wealth, or sometimes from obscurity to fame".
Many examples can be found throughout fairy tales, literature, movies and more such as Snow White, Cinderella or Citizen Cane.

One celebrity example would be Bill Clinton. In his early life he lived in in Hope, Arkansas with his grandparents. His father dies before his birth and his mother was off studying nursing. His humble background with his grandparents was interesting. They ran a small grocery store often selling goods to people of all races on credit even though segregation was wide spread.

As we know he went on to become one of the most popular presidents in modern history.
