The Westmount library is huge and with free membership to Westmount residents, I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
They have a great selection of books (obviously!), public records, CD's and VHS's but the best part is free Wifi.
They also provide work space which is barely full during the day and has a power socket and lamp to help you work away and do your research. It's like getting an office for free.
I suggest that you check out your local library and see what they have to offer.
