Famous Irish sayings

Leading up to this weekends St Patrick's celebrations I will be writing about various famous Irish sayings and hopefully trying to find out what the mean.

Top of the morning to you

I get the impression that this phrase isn't actually used too muc by the Irish themselves. It seems that it is more likely an Englishman's view of an Irish saying.

None the less, it means have a great morning or a variation in greeting of that. The correct response is something along the lines of "and the est of the day to you to"

I am not sure yet what the next famous Irish sayings post will be about so stick around.
