My First Pumpkin

The kitchen staff (so that includes me :) ) at work were offered 2 free pints to carve a pumpkin for Halloween.

Never having carved one before I didn't know what to do so had a thought and came up with this idea and quickly mocked it up on the computer just before I had to leave:


I didn't know where to start carving so after copying my design roughly onto the pumpkin I started with the person first.


I think it turned out reasonably well for my first one, and it was definitely worth the free pints :).

Woo Hoo finally I have a pagerank

Google has awarded me Pagerank 3, yay!!!!

If only I had been awarded this before Google went nuts and made everyone distrust the whole thing and devalue it's meaning!

Obviously it was bored with nuts!

Yesterday I was almost late for work because I saw this little thing munching a whole slice of pizza and I had to try and get a quick photo.

Four Foods on Friday

I have not done a meme for a while and I was just about to post a meme that I have created when I saw that I had been tagged for this one by Lynn at the Sewing Mum. Phew that was a long sentence!

This is a quick and easy meme and a way to help us get to know our fellow bloggers. Just answer four food related questions and tag a few other bloggers. That’s it, so here I go.

1. How do you like your eggs cooked? Any special ingredients? Hmmmmm, I like them poached then in a toasted sandwich with some random herbs, cheese and ketchup.

2. What is your favorite cold sandwich, made on two pieces of bread? Probably peanut butter.

3. What is your favorite pie? Has to be a really really good homemade fruit pie of some sort. Maybe apple and cheery with custard would be a dream combination

4. Name one food you refuse to eat and why? Mayonnaise, I would rather lick the road clean for a day then eat even 1 spoon of this sludge!

I say tomato you say tomato

I once blogged about the difference between the letter Z (here) in the UK and in North America. It was only the tip of the iceberg as far as pronunciations and language differences between these English speaking nations (I should note, out of respect, that Canada actually has two languages... French and English. Oh and the US will probably have to include Spanish as it's other langauge some day soon).

Most people can instantly think of a few words that the UK and North Amercia pronounce differently, such as tomato, but the one word that tickles me everytime I hear it is Herb.

For some reason North America says 'erb and drops the H. When I was living in england the only time I would hear herb said like that was from the Carribean accent so to see a 70 year old checked/checkered (depending where you are!) shirt wearing Canadian say 'erb really makes me chuckle and seems really out of place.

In many instances words mean different things over the water.

In British English pavement means the sidewalk. Chips means fries, pants mean whitey tighty underwear and fanny means vagina!

I really love the fact that the differences exist. Here in Montreal I'm teased about not speaking properly and the differences in our english provides at least a small amount of entertainment everyday.

If you can think of any other words that are differently understood between versions of English (or any other language for that manner) then I would love to hear about them.

If you had a personalised number plate just for fun what would it be?

I suppose I would try and have a variation on the name forest maybe something like this F0R35T or maybe my second name which is Parks would be P4RK5?

I have never owned a vehicle so have never had the need for a plate on my car but a Bedroom Door Sign could be cool and I guess it would be great for kids. I would use my name but you could try anything such as G3T AW4Y or PR1V4T3 then fun could never end?? If you own a company then you could turn all your workers into numbers and buy number plates to pin to their office doors so that you could find then easily. This also works if you are starting a fight club style organisation or you have lot's of children.

If you are in the UK then 4plates offer a cool plate design and build service which can be used for serious replacement plates, personalised plates or the fun variety that I was writing about above.

Many of my friends have had private plates put on their vehicles and used similar companies. The results are always pretty cool or funny depending on what they have chosen to have.

Maybe i'll go and buy some for my friends birthdays with encouraging messages such as L0S3R or B0RN DUM3. That would please them!!
