Not long after I purchased my flat in London I decided I would go explore the loft.
So I got a ladder and a friend was round. I clambered into the loft to inspect the floor and beams and everything else.
I was treading carefully on the beams but noticed that the floor was actually concrete so decided that I did not need to tread so careful from now on.
Bang my foot and entire leg disappeared. It wasn't concrete, it was just gray plaster board and I was being dumb.
So I ended up with a bruised and scratched leg and groin area as well as an inch thick layer of dust over my entire bathroom, oh and I forgot to mention, I big hole.
I actually left the hole for a long while, planning to repair it myself but never getting round to it.
So when it came to the time for me to sell, something else happened. A storm collapsed aprt of the roof and now I had a hole in the living room.
I contacted my insurance firm and as much as I had always thought they were ripping me off they just said ok and fixed both the plaster ceilings for my simple £75 claim fee. Sadly the external roof damage was not covered as it was damage occured over time and this set me back a lot of money.
I guess my moral is that is something is going to be costly to fix then it's a good idea to insure it. Which reminds me, I should look into insuring my laptop!
